Mitchell & Ness In 1983, the defending AFC champs drafted a talented young player from the University of Pittsburgh. In his rookie year, Dan Marino led the Miami Dolphins to the Pro Bowl but the best was yet to come. He threw 48 touchdown passes and 5,084 yards the following season making him the first quarterback to throw for more than 5,000 yards. Marino and the Dolphins headed to the AFC Championship, where he threw for 421 yards and four touchdowns over his hometown Steelers sending the Dolphins to Super Bowl XIX. The 49ers won the game, but Marino walked away with MVP honors for his efforts throughout the season. In August of 2005, Marino was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame as one of the finest quarterbacks ever to take the field....
